Aeronautical and Aviation Technology Career Technical Education (AERO)
The Airframe and Powerplant Technician Program is divided into three parts: general aircraft maintenance, aircraft airframe, and aircraft powerplant. It is meant for students who want to take airframe and powerplant exams. If you are detail-oriented and understand that the safety of others is dependent on the quality of your job, you may be a good fit for a rewarding career as a technician!
Antelope Valley College is one of just a few community colleges in the United States that provides composites production and repair. The Federal Aviation Administration has approved this Airframe and Powerplant Technician Program (FAA).
Future Information Sessions: There are no upcoming Information Sessions at this time. The exact date will be announced at a later time.
Please keep in mind that these information sessions are for all Aeronautical Sciences & Technology programs at Antelope Valley College.
As an airframe and powerplant technician, you'll need an associate's degree in science.
What will I discover?
When you finish the program, you will have a thorough understanding of aircraft constructions, hydraulics, fuel and electrical systems, fire controls, engines, landing controls, and more. You will become acquainted with the techniques and procedures used in aviation maintenance and repair.
This curriculum will provide you with a good deal of the information you'll need to pass the FAA's extensive testing for an Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic Certificate.
The program is based in the Technology Building, which features industry-standard technology and cutting-edge laboratories. Several classes, such as Barnes Aviation in Lancaster, are held off-campus for real-world instruction.
Most graduates begin their careers in the business as structural or composite technicians. During the employment process, supervisory skills and expertise in other disciplines are also taken into account.
Technicians can work on a variety of aircraft, from small single-engine general aviation planes and helicopters to big commercial jetliners.
