The Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program at SJVC trains students in the skills and technical knowledge required to perform maintenance on aircraft airframes (body) and powerplants (engine).
Our Aviation Maintenance Technology program teaches students:
This course covers the fundamentals of blueprint reading, mechanical drawings, fluid line manufacturing, and the identification of various aircraft gear and materials. It will also include nondestructive testing techniques, precision measuring equipment, and aviation corrosion control. Proper FAA documentation and manufacturer instructions, including mechanic rights and limitations, shall be used. This course must be passed with a grade of "C" or above.
This course will teach you how to examine, troubleshoot, and repair landing gear retraction systems such as shock struts, wheals, brakes, and tires. Fuel management and dump systems, as well as auxiliary system maintenance and repair, will be covered. Ice and rain control, smoke and carbon monoxide warning systems, and fire detection and extinguishment systems are all part of this. This course must be passed with a grade of "C" or above.

What can you accomplish with a degree in aircraft maintenance?
Most mechanics are called generalists since they work on a wide range of aircraft, including jets, planes, and helicopters. Some mechanics specialize in a certain type of aircraft, such as helicopter mechanics, or in systems, such as the engine, hydraulic system, or electrical system.
Aviation maintenance is a wide field that encompasses all that goes into keeping aircrafts flying. Diagnose mechanical or electrical problems; replace damaged parts with hand tools or power tools; inspect completed work to ensure that it satisfies performance standards; and repair wings, brakes, electrical systems, and other aircraft components.
What types of occupations require an associate's degree in aviation maintenance?
Aircraft mechanics and service technicians often start the occupation after attending an FAA-approved aviation maintenance technician school, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. These schools issue a certificate of completion, which the FAA accepts as an alternative to the experience requirements indicated in rules. The programs also allow holders to take the required FAA tests. 2
The length of time it takes to complete an aircraft maintenance program varies depending on courseload and timetable. In the Aviation Maintenance Technology program at SJVC, students can receive a Certificate of Completion in as little as 17 months or an Associate of Science degree in as little as 22 months.
The most essential investment you can make in your future is in education. Everyone can benefit from a financial plan, which includes a variety of financial help choices.
