Technology for Aviation Maintenance (Associate of Occupational Studies)

Students will learn the technical skills needed to service, repair, and overhaul aircraft components and systems. The general education classes in the associate degree program broaden students' knowledge and critical thinking skills. Graduates who pass the written, oral, and practical tests for the Mechanic's Certificate with both Airframe and Powerplant Ratings are eligible to take the FAA written, oral, and practical tests.

Airframe & Powerplant (Diploma) A&P specialists keep aircraft in safe flying condition by servicing, repairing, and rebuilding aircraft components in accordance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the aircraft manufacturer's strict rules. Airframe, piston engines, turbine engines, hydraulic systems, propellers, rigging, warning systems, and environmental systems are all worked on by technicians in this discipline.

Equipment and Facilities

Our Los Angeles campus' technological facilities can handle about 500 students. Classrooms are over 19,000 square feet, while labs are over 40,000 square feet. Spartan College offers a variety of industry-relevant training aids, including, but not limited to:

Reciprocating and turbine engines
A wide range of carburetors, magnetos, turbochargers, and propellers are available.
Sheet metal shop with shears and brakes
Pneumatic drill and press
Thrilling equipment
Shops where wood, fabric, fiberglass, plexiglas, and composites are studied.
Aircraft electricity laboratory
Additional study equipment for aircraft navigation, flight, and communication instrumentation

Services to Students

Our instructors and staff at Spartan College are dedicated to our students' success. We understand that this is dependent on more than simply academic coursework in a student's program of choice, which is why we offer such a wide range of support services as:

The Learning Resource Center (LRC) of Spartan College exists to maintain and provide information, resources, and services that support the educational goals of Spartan College's students, instructors, and staff. Students can access online material such as the internet, the eLibrary, CD-ROMs, current publications, and printed reference resources. Staff will assist students in making use of these and other resources. Students are encouraged to become acquainted with the LRC early in the first term. Students can access online information, such as the internet, the e-Library, and printed reference materials. Staff will assist students in making use of these and other resources.

Testing Center: At the campus, students can take the FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification examinations. To make an appointment, please contact 310-579-9433. Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. On Fridays, tests are held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday are off days for the Testing Center.
