The Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) degree equips students with the skills needed for a career in aviation maintenance. Students who complete the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree will meet the requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to test for two licenses: airframe maintenance technician and powerplant maintenance technician (A&P).

The curriculum includes all of the needed classroom and lab hours (2030 total). A&P technicians with these licenses can operate in the aviation industry on jet engines, reciprocating engines, airframes, and different aircraft accessories such as sheet metal, riveting, composite production and repair, and more. The curriculum is heavily reliant on hands-on lab work in USU's maintenance management laboratory.

Aircraft maintenance technicians are in high demand, and program graduates have a high employment placement rate following graduation.

Options for a Career

Graduates with the A&P certificate work as aviation maintenance technicians. They find work in the following fields:

Maintenance technicians for airlines, business aviation, general aviation, and helicopter maintenance are all available.
Maintenance of fixed-base operators (general aviation)
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) (government)
Contracts for military aircraft maintenance
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)
