When it's time to take to the skies in Michigan, you'll depart from Battle Creek's W.K. Kellogg Airport, which has the state's second longest runway and also serves as a base for the Air National Guard. As your abilities improve, you'll become accustomed to flying into and out of a wide range of airports, and Michigan skies will teach you how to deal with a wide range of temperatures and weather systems.

The aviation flight science degree stresses both intellectual and technical abilities. The program is designed to educate future captains and managers, not only pilots. General education subjects, basic sciences, aircraft systems, crew concepts, and resource management, advanced aerodynamics, professional flying, airline operations, management and administration, global navigation, and international flight are all included in the program. You will also have the ability to participate in academic research initiatives aimed at bringing the industry forward if you so desire.

Crew concept in the flight training environment, Crew Resource Management—CRM, the use of cutting-edge simulators and Line Oriented Flight Crew Simulations, computer-based training, and the most advanced flight training equipment with glass cockpit technology, including the Avidyne R9 avionics suite and the DFC-100 advanced autopilot, are also included in the program.

The advanced curriculum at the College of Aviation is designed to effectively train students with no prior flight training while focusing on what the airline industry and aviation regulators perceive as key components of aviation education. This updated curriculum takes you from no flight experience through degree completion and employment ready. Once hired, the only additional training needed will be to convert to operating with a certain airline on a specific aircraft. At the College of Aviation, we endeavor to stay current on the changing demands of the aviation industry so that you can receive the training and education you need to be a functional and productive member of it.
