The aviation business requires highly trained professionals to handle hardware, troubleshoot systems, repair airframe structures, and maintain powerplant (engine) systems, whether it be general aviation or commercial transport aircraft. SIUC Aviation Technologies is regarded as one of the best in the country. Our courses were established in accordance with FAA criteria, as well as with input from industry representatives and alumni; our curriculum delivers the vital skills and comprehensive educational experience required to survive in today's competitive climate.
Optional major routes offer a great lot of freedom in preparation for a career in the aviation business. Students can earn the FAA airframe and powerplant (A&P) certificate in a five-semester sequence of courses, or they can combine the A&P with additional coursework as part of a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation Technologies.
The bachelor's degree in Aviation Technologies is intended to supplement students' technical training in aviation maintenance or electronics. This technical training can be obtained at SIUC, other post-secondary institutions, the military, or, in the case of aviation maintenance, other FAA recognized maintenance schools certified under F.A.R. Part 147.
