Learn how to inspect and conduct aircraft and aviation system maintenance, preventive maintenance, and alterations. This major provides students with the information and skills needed to pass the FAA's Airframe Mechanic and Powerplant Mechanic tests, allowing them to seek entry-level jobs in aviation and other maintenance sectors around the world. The Aviation Maintenance Technician major is FAA-approved and overseen, and it is certified under Part 147 of the Federal Aviation Regulations.
Adult students enrolled in the Aircraft Maintenance program must provide their own laptop, tool kit, and secure storage. Metro Tech does not support or recommend any particular tool seller or make.
General math, Algebra I, general science, or courses of equal difficulty
Reading and math skills at or above the 10th grade level Ability to understand and apply fundamental math and physics concepts
Ability to present and comprehend theory and technical information
Computer literacy/skills are required.
Mechanical competence of average or better
Excellent manual dexterity and agility
Ability to endure hard labor such as standing, heavy lifting, working in confined areas, and working above head level
Due to licensing restrictions, this program requires an employment authorization card or a social security number.
Skills in Student Organizations
Certifications from the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA) of the United States are now available.
