Mechanics of Aviation Powerplants

The aviation program at Lively Technical College is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-certified Aviation Maintenance Technician School (AMTS) that prepares prospective aircraft mechanics for professions in the airline sector, aviation maintenance facilities, and commercial and general aviation (GA).

Overview of the Program

The Aviation Powerplant Mechanics curriculum is intended to educate students for employment or further education in the commercial and general aviation industries. The course is meant to prepare students for the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) license tests for Airframe ratings. Part 147 of the Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) specifies the basic standards for the certification and operation of an AMTS. The regulation specifies the curriculum requirements as well as the operational standards for all certified AMTSs. The information, skills, and talents required of mechanics are extensive, necessitating extensive training. As a result, the FAA expects high standards from the AMTS.

Aircraft Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Technician careers range from general aviation to commercial aviation, from aircraft or component manufacturers through aircraft repair and overhaul at both domestic and international fixed base operations. Aviation Maintenance Technology consists of two programs, each with one common core and two additional occupational completion points (per program), and is designed to prepare students for entry into the aviation maintenance profession by providing them with the skills, knowledge, and related abilities required. The student will be prepared for the FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certification.

STUDENTS WHO WISH TO CONTINUE IN THE AVIATION AIRFRAME MECHANIC PROGRAM MUST ENROLL FOR AN ADDITIONAL 810 HOURS AT A TUITION RATE OF $2,365.20 PLUS REGISTRATION/FACILITY USAGE ($150.00), MISCELLANEOUS FEES ($130.00), LAB FEES ($300.00), AND THE AIRFRAME TEXTBOOK KIT ($147.01) FOR A
