WHAT IS AVIATION MAINTENANCE TECHNOLOGY?

The purpose of this FAA-certified program is to provide expertise in the inspection, repair, service, and overhaul of aircraft and engines (FAA). The skills taught in aviation maintenance include interpreting specifications from service and technical manuals, using testing techniques and equipment, diagnosing issues, and making necessary repairs. The FAA must certify students who complete this curriculum in order for them to work in the aircraft industry.

Students enrolling in the Aviation Maintenance Technology program must get a C or better in each AMT course. Prior to admission to the AMT courses, computer literacy must be proved through a competency exam or by completing a computer literacy course.

What are my alternatives for a degree, diploma, or certificate?

CERTIFICATES

A certificate of completion for Airframe

A Powerplant completion certificate

A certificate of completion for the airframe and powerplant

A certificate in Aviation Maintenance Technology

A degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology is required.

Program Length

If you study full-time, you can complete an associate in applied science degree in five semesters, or two and a half years.

This material should not be used in place of the KCTCS Catalog. To guarantee that you meet all degree requirements, you should always choose classes in collaboration with your faculty advisor.

Enrollment Update for Spring 2022

The application cycle for Spring 2022 enrollment is now closed, and applicants have been notified of their placement in the process. In February 2022, the application round for Fall 2022 enrollment will begin. If you are interested in participating in that process, you can book an information session on this site or request an individual meeting through Microsoft Teams.

Potential applicants interested in enrolling in Aviation Maintenance Technology should consider any of the courses listed below for Spring 2022. These options will earn you points in the selective admissions process while also helping you acquire technical and academic abilities that will help you succeed in Aviation Maintenance Technology.

Courses in General Education (See Academic Program Plan).

TIG Welding certification training.

A lesson in basic electricity. When deciding on this option, consult with your coach or Dallas King.

A course in drawing or blueprint reading.

Part 107 of the UST 107 Remote Pilot (drone) course.

Completion of the FAASTeam Certificate for Aircraft Maintenance professionals. When deciding on this option, consult with AMT Coach.

Aviation Math (ATE 100).

Applicants Seeking Admission

The most recent iteration of the Aviation Maintenance Technology Selective Admissions Document must be obtained and reviewed. If you are unable to get the document by completing the form, please contact Dallas King at dallas.king@kctcs.edu.

Attend a Preadmission Conference in the semester preceding the semester in which they intend to enroll. On page 30 of the above-mentioned paper, there is a recurring calendar, and a link to conference registration is supplied below.

Are encouraged to enroll in General Education classes in order to get points. The Academic Program Plan, which may be found at the bottom of this page under other information, details the General Education courses. Other courses, such as UAS 107, are also a possibility for this.

You may request the assistance of an Aviation Maintenance Technology Faculty Coach with your application submission. As you proceed through the registration process, the Faculty Coach can assist you by answering questions, providing directions, and providing advice. By choosing the Coach Registration link, you can select a faculty coach member.

Participants may attend group advising sessions to obtain basic program information, instructions, or explanations on the selective admissions process. This conference is for those who need more information to assess whether the Aviation Maintenance Technology Program is a good fit for them. This briefing session also introduces the Applicant to the FAA's position in the Aviation Maintenance Technology Program, as well as the severe grading and attendance requirements that you will face while enrolled. To learn more about the program, please attend an information session.

Contact Dallas King via Microsoft Teams for a one-on-one meeting. This option is for those with specialized enrollment or special registration questions, such as transfer, military service relevant to Aviation Maintenance Technology, or other non-typical enrollment questions. Requests for this meeting should be sent to Dallas King through email.
