The George T. Baker Aviation Technical College is located near the Miami International Airport at 3275 N.W. 42 Avenue. The Miami-Dade County Public School System operates the school, which is a public, tax-supported institution authorized by the Florida Department of Education. It is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration under Part 147 of the Federal Aviation Regulations and is accredited by the Council on Occupational Education (COE) and the National Center for Aircraft Technician Training (NCATT). CT9T072R is the certificate number.
Currently, George T. Baker Aviation Technical College is preparing 1,000 high school and adult students for jobs in aviation. We teach aerospace technology, electronics, avionics, and aircraft maintenance to high school students (airframe and powerplant). We teach electronics, avionics, and aviation maintenance to adult students (airframe and powerplant). After completing their individual courses of study, both high school and adult students may get credentials from the NCATT, FCC, and FAA. We are only one of two NCATT-accredited schools in Florida, and the only school in the US that offers NCATT-accredited courses to high school students.
The FAA, NCATT, and FCC qualified technicians with strong aviation experience who teach at George T. Baker Aviation Technical College are certified by the State of Florida. Baker Aviation only hires licensed FAA test examiners who conduct on-site oral, practical, and written exams. Baker Aviation also collaborates on a local and national level with colleges and universities that provide degrees in aviation-related fields.
Anyone above the age of 16 who has graduated or dropped out of high school is eligible to enroll as an adult student.
Any high school student enrolled in Miami-Dade County Public Schools may enroll part-time.
Visit the school between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, to acquire general information and an application for admission.
International Students
Applicants with F-1 (academic) or M-1 (vocational) student visas should register at the New Student Reception Center, 489 E. Drive, Miami, FL 33166.
Mr. Orlando Martinez-Fortun, (305) 883-1445, is the contact person for the New Student Reception Center.
They should then follow the usual registration procedures at George T. Baker Aviation Technical College after this initial registration.
All additional foreign/non-resident students are welcome to enroll at the school.
This curriculum provides a comprehensive, action-based education and experience foundation for a career in Aviation Assembly.
Students in 9th grade are the target audience.
Four elective credits are available (one year program)
Throughout the curriculum, kites, hot air balloons, parachutes, gliders, aircraft driven and non-powered models, weather stations, and wind tunnels are utilized to teach topics and increase understandings. This program focuses on suitable preparation for the Aviation Maintenance Technician program, and it employs many of the same instructional approaches and types of practice as the Aviation Maintenance Technician program.

The Accrediting Commission of the Council on Occupational Education has granted accreditation to George T. Baker Aviation Technical College.
This program trains students to work as aviation mechanics. Students who finish the Airframe and/or Powerplant Technician Program(s) are qualified to take the FAA written and oral exams to become a certified Airframe or Powerplant Technician. Secondary students may continue their education as post-secondary students. The FAA has issued Certificate #CT9T072R to the school.
The General curriculum is a one-year prerequisite for both the Airframe Technician and/or Powerplant Technician programs.
Airframe: The Airframe Technician Program is a two-year program that focuses on the structures and systems of airplanes.
Powerplant: The Powerplant Technician Program is a two-year program that focuses on powerplant theory and the repair of aircraft engine operations and systems.
Students in the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades are the target audience.
Credits: 9 Elective Credits (three-year program)
2.0 GPA, ability to finish career-level education, and exceptional attendance, conduct, and effort are required (State Statute 1007.271).
The Avionics Technician curriculum prepares students for entry-level careers in electronics and avionics while also developing academic, technical, and professional skills necessary for job acquisition, retention, and promotion.
The curriculum combines electronics and avionics theory with practical applications required for successful employment. Graduates of the program will get a certificate of completion for the Electronic Technology program.
Students in the tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades are the target audience.
