CoA Accreditation Status The College of Alameda is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges' Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), an institutional accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Higher education institutions in the United States freely participate in self-evaluation and external peer review with the goal of sustaining educational integrity and quality, as well as institutional effectiveness. The ACCJC accreditation procedure ensures that recognized member colleges meet the Commission's standards. This proves that the degrees, certifications, and credits acquired are valuable to the student who earned them. Employers, trade or profession-related licensing organizations, and other schools and universities can recognize a student's certification from an approved member college.

Concerning the ACCJC

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges' Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) accredits community colleges and other associate degree-granting institutions in the Western United States. The ACCJC is one of the United States' seven regional accrediting commissions. The ACCJC was established by the United States Department of Education under the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008.

The Accreditation Procedure

The College of Alameda maintains its accreditation by meeting the ACCJC's standards. The College engages in continuous internal, mission-driven evaluation processes over the duration of the (formerly six-year) now seven-year accreditation review cycle. These are supplemented by regular external peer review and Commission evaluation. These factors, when combined, result in continuous institutional self-improvement. During this cycle, documents such as a complete Institutional Self-Evaluation Report (ISER), an external evaluation report, a midterm report, annual reports, and annual fiscal reports are generated.

After a year-long procedure, the College of Alameda completed an ISER for the 2020-21 school year. Under the direction of the ACCJC, the Commission will conduct a site visit in spring 2021 with external peer evaluators. The site visit in 2021 will take place virtually. Faculty, classified staff, administrators, and students all helped gather evidence, write the ISER, and prepare for the site visit.
