Aviation Maintenance at Indian Hills Community College is an FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) recognized curriculum, which means graduates not only receive a degree from Indian Hills, but also a Federal Airframe and Powerplant License! This license permits you to work on any type of aircraft, anywhere in the United States! The program is located on the North Campus, just a few minutes' drive from the Ottumwa Industrial Airport. The Aviation Maintenance program prepares you for a fun, adventurous, demanding, and fulfilling job with outstanding salary and benefits. Working on an aircraft is one of the most thrilling jobs in the world.
The Aviation Maintenance program is completed in less than two years. Students earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and earn an average beginning income of $20.00 per hour!

Changing. Work as an Airframe and Powerplant Technician, Sheet Metal/Structures Technician, or Turbine Engine Technician!
After completing the 21-month program, you will be able to begin the certification exam procedure. There will be three sets of exams in each of the three primary FAA subject areas: general, airframe, and powerplant. There are three types of exams: computer/written, oral, and practical. All testing takes place on site.
According to the FAA, all students must have completed 1900 hours of training before they are qualified to take the certification examinations. The class attendance record serves as documentation to the FAA that the student completed the required amount of hours.
Individuals with an A&P certification may maintain, inspect, and repair anything that flies, from drones and hot air balloons to airplanes and military jet fighters.
